Our TDLR Approved Parent Taught Drivers Education course is a self-paced online course and takes 32 hours. You can not complete the entire course in one day – and you shouldn’t want to. Beginning June 1, 2023 you may complete up to 6 hours of coursework per day. You can not complete a PTDE or Teen course in less than 6 days. You may log in and out as many times as you desire.

Yes. You may start on one computer and complete it on another. All you need is access to the internet and a web browser.
How long does it take to receive my completion certificate?
For a Parent Taught course you will receive your certificate immediately, online. We issue 2 certificates. One certificate is for your Permit. You will be able to print your permit certificate after passing the first 6 hours of the course. You may take the permit certificate to the DPS and just take your eye exam to receive your driving permit. The course completion certificate is issued after you have completed the entire course.
For an Adult Drivers Ed course you will receive your certificate immediately, online. You will be able to print your certificate after you have completed the 6 hour course.
What if I lose my completion certificate?
If you have misplaced your completion certificate just log back into your course and download it again.
What happens if I fail the final?
Take it again. You’ll have unlimited attempts to pass your final.
Can I drive with a Permit in another state?
That depends on the state. Some states allow you to drive following the same rules as the issuing state. Others do not recognize permits issued by other states at all. For instance, Hawaii and Washington D.C. do not recognize out-of-state issued driving permits. You should verify the rules in any state your permit holder may wish to drive. There may also be age restrictions that are different than Texas.
Are there any additional requirements?
If you are under 25 years of age you will be required to complete an Impact Texas Drivers Course. For those under 18 years of age you will need to complete a 2 hour ITTD Course (Impact Texas Teen Driver), for those over 18 years of age you will need to complete a 1 hour ITAD Course (Impact Texas Adult Driver). The certificate for those courses is only valid for 90 days and is a requirement for taking the behind-the-wheel skills test (road test). To find out more click here.
Special Circumstances
If you start a Teen or PTDE Driver Education course when you will be an adult (18) soon – there are things to consider when determining how you will obtain your license. The general rule is that you must have your permit for at least 6 months and be at least 16 years of age before you qualify to take your road test. However, if you were to start a course a few months before your 18th birthday you can technically complete the course and either obtain your permit prior to or after your 18th birthday and you are not subject to the 6 month rule after you turn 18. But if you begin a course and plan to follow thru with obtaining your license you must satisfy all the requirements of that course to obtain your full license. This normally means that if you begin a Teen or PTDE course but fail to get your license prior to turning 18 – you will have to do the ITTD Course for Teen Drivers even though you would technically be an adult. If you have not completed your full course and have more than 6 hours of coursework remaining after you turn 18 – it may be easier to start the process over and enroll in a 6 hour Adult Driver Education course.
These matters can be complicated so you may want to call to get a full explanation.
